Bail Computation for Southern California Residents Facing Criminal Charges

When someone is arrested, the first question is how to get them out — and in Southern California the answer is often not a dollar figure at all. Los Angeles County and several of its neighbors now decide most releases in the hours after arrest, under protocols that can send someone home without posting anything. Where money bail does apply, each county publishes a schedule setting a presumptive amount for each offense. Those schedules are below, as the courts themselves publish them.

A schedule amount is a starting point, not a prediction. Since In re Humphrey (2021), a judge setting bail must consider what the person can actually afford, and whether conditions short of money would answer the court’s concerns.
